China has become the world's largest consumer of synthetic resin
At present, the supply and demand fundamentals of the five major synthetic resins in the world are loose. In terms of capacity supply, Northeast Asia is the main production area for synthetic resins. In 2019, the global production capacity has reached 40%. China has an important position in global packaging, agriculture, electronics and electrical appliances, automobiles and other industries. Therefore, its synthetic resin consumption is relatively large in Northeast Asia and even the world. In 2019, China's synthetic resin consumption reached 98.665 million tons, accounting for approximately 38.7% of global consumption.
1. The fundamentals of global synthetic resin supply and demand are loose
In 2019, the global new synthetic resin production capacity reached 10.13 million tons/year, and the total production capacity reached 302.86 million tons/year, an increase of nearly 35 million tons/year compared with 2015; the global synthetic resin consumption is estimated to be around 255 million tons, compared with 2015 An increase of 17.3%, with an average annual growth rate of around 4.1%.
Affected by the rise of unilateralism and trade protectionism, the slowdown in global economic growth has dragged down the consumption of the top five synthetic resins. In 2019, the global five major synthetic resin supply and demand fundamentals of polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polystyrene (PS) and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene resin (ABS) It is loose.
2, Northeast Asia is the global production center
From the perspective of new installations, global synthetic resin production is further concentrated in Northeast Asia, North America and the Middle East. In 2019, the five major synthetic resin production capacity in these three regions is about 204.79 million tons/year, accounting for 68.4% of global production capacity, which is an increase from 2015. 0.8 percentage points.
Among them, Northeast Asia has become the global synthetic resin production center since 2001. By 2019, the synthetic resin production capacity in this region was 11.79 million tons/year, accounting for 40% of global production capacity; North America's production capacity was nearly 50 million tons/year, Accounted for 16.7%; the Middle East production capacity exceeded 35 million tons per year, accounting for 11.7%.
3, China is the world's largest consumer of synthetic resin
From the perspective of the demand for synthetic resin in different regions of the world: Northeast Asia is the world's largest consumer of synthetic resin. In 2019, the demand for synthetic resin in Northeast Asia was about 110 million tons, and the demand accounted for 43.1%; followed by North America. In 2019, the demand for synthetic resin in North America was 33.75 million tons, and the demand accounted for 13.2%; Western Europe In 2019, the demand for synthetic resin in India and Pakistan was 28.05 million tons and 17.85 million tons, accounting for 11% and 7% respectively.
As the world’s major production base, China has an important position in packaging, agriculture, electronics, and automobiles. Therefore, its synthetic resin consumption is relatively large in Northeast Asia and even the world. In 2019, China's synthetic resin consumption reached 98.665 million tons, accounting for approximately 38.7% of global consumption.
4. Polyolefin is the main demand variety
From the perspective of the demand for specific types of synthetic resins, the demand for polyethylene was the highest in 2019, at 105 million tons, accounting for 41.2% of the total demand, and the average growth rate from 2015 to 2019 was 4.4%;
The demand for polypropylene is 76.3 million tons, ranking second, accounting for 29.9% of the total demand, with an average annual growth rate of 4.6%;
The third is polyvinyl chloride, the demand is 46.45 million tons, accounting for 18.2% of the total demand; the demand for polystyrene is 17.78 million tons, accounting for 7%; the demand for ABS is 9.51 million tons, accounting for 3.7%.
Polyolefin (polyethylene, polypropylene)'s unique easy processing, good comprehensive performance and non-toxic characteristics make its application fields continue to expand. It has gradually replaced polyvinyl chloride in water supply pipes and other fields. At present, polyolefins account for the proportion of demand. It was 71.1%. In 2019, polyolefins became the main driving force for the growth of the five major synthetic resins, and its demand increase accounted for 77% of the total increase in the five major resins.
